Dictator - 20 Year - Rum

Proof:  80
Origins:  Columbia
Bdawg says:  I am a rookie to what I call sipping rum.  This one is definitely a winner!  Per the Dictador website, this Rum is the result of the fermentation of a mixture of virgin sugar cane honey which has been distilled in part from alembic copper pot stills and in part from continuous column stills. The distillate is aged in reused oak using a Solera method.

What is the Solera method?  Per Wkipedia:  Solera is a process for aging liquids by fractional blending in such a way that the finished product is a mixture of ages, with the average age gradually increasing as the process continues over many years. A solerais literally the set of barrels or other containers used in the process.

The color is a dark copper.  The mouthfeel is syrupy and thick similar to a port wine.  The flavor is vanilla, maple, caramel, and oak.

However; this rum does not stand up to a cigar.  The flavors are too delicate.  I drank half of this glass before I lit the cigar and it was delicious.  After trying a medium cigar, the rum taste totally got lost.  This rum should be enjoyed on its own or maybe as an after dinner desert drink.
